DESCRIPTION
Next to the zoo wall, a raspberry bush, at the bank of the river Wien, a quince tree and, in a deserted green house, a bed of herbs. We urbs have a weakness for plants ;-). When guerilla gardening, it is important to remember to think hard about whether soil, environment and climate are right for the plants – after all, you are responsible for their lives. This means a lot of research is necessary, but the results can be very fruitful.

It's illegal to turn a neglected urban space into a flower garden. But I haven't ever found anyone who felt threatened by wild strawberries, or crashed into a patch of lavender under a motorway. There are seed boms to throw onto grim inaccessible places. The Selbsterntefelder can however be legally gardened – from 99 euros per year.

INTERESTING FACTS
Guerilla gardening has been a non-violent way to protest against the ‘monoculture of the political system’ since 1970. The seeds are powerfully symbolic. On the other hand, there is also the desire for self sufficiency and to turn the city into a place worth living in. This movement also includes illegal vegetable farming on waste land.
