Before we Urbs, like Spider-Man take to the city's roofs, we should probably practice climbing a bit ;-). Okay, perhaps a little optimistic, but walking on walls is a lot of fun, even if you haven't been bitten by a spider. There are structures like stalactites, and columns and there are crash mats. There is also a space for therapy climbing, another for warm-ups as well as a fitness room with exercise machines.

EDELWEISS-CENTER
Bouldering is the thing here. Because this is Austria's largest boulder centre, with more than 1,000m2 climbing surface and 12,000 grips. There are seven different inclined climbing walls for visitors to use, as well as an asymmetric gateway wall, real stone corners, 100m2 climbing on the ceiling, a slab for practicing structure techniques, with water runoff erosion, as well as repositionable elements such as stalactites and limestone columns. The centre has crash pads, and there are additional rooms for climbing therapy, and warm up, and also a fitness room with machines.

CLIMBING TOWER, FLAK TOWER
This eleven-storey indestructible relic of war is located in the centre of the 6th district. While fish swim inside, the outside can be climbed and mastered. Over an area of about 700m², more than 4,000 handholds provide for the requisite vertical challenge and variety. The climbing urb has 20 routes on the 34m high main wall, with difficulty grades from 4 to 8. Equipment can be hired on site. There is a boulder wall on the west of the flak tower which is perfect for warming up and trying the sport out, before the main wall is eventually faced.

KLETTERZENTRUM AUSTRIA
The headquarters of Austrian climbing, provides an introduction, primarily to climbing with ropes. There are always courses running, for all ages. An 11m high lead climbing wall (200m² climbing area) as well as boulders over 80m² are waiting for you - although it is worth checking if the facilities are being used for training. And every real scrambling urb should treat themselves, because there is a lot to learn if you want to get to the top.

CLIMBING STYLES - FREE CLIMBING, BOULDERING AND FREE SOLO

Free Climbing: here only the climber's own body can be used in the climb, although safety measures to prevent falls are allowed. The climbing routes are usually provided with bolts, climbers need only fix safety equipment on a few routes. The sport can be practised in indoor and outdoor climbing gyms, and on rock faces.

Bouldering: This is climbing without a rope on boulders and natural or artificial climbing walls at a hight you can jump from. Crash pads are used to help prevent injury from falls.

Technical Climbing: Here rope and aids (stepladders, ascenders) are used in the climb. It is used primarily by Alpine climbers, when there is no other way to make progress based on local conditions.

Free Solo: No safety equipment is used, which means a single mistake can be fatal!

THE EDELWEISS ALPINE ASSOCIATION ACTIVE - SAFE - EXPERIENCE MORE!
